CITIZEN OF THE WORLD is the new one-man show of global standup comedian AZHAR USMAN. It is his latest creative project, after touring over 20 countries on five continents all over the planet. Given his unique cultural perspective, Usman is situated between East and West, between Faith and Atheism, between America and the rest of the world.

As an Indian-American Muslim—born and raised in Chicago—he has not just traveled the world telling jokes; he has became an observant student of human behavior and the fundamental, transcendent realities of the human condition.

In the spirit of his standup heroes—including George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Mitch Hedberg, and Bill Hicks—Azhar seeks to find the funny in the things that actually keep him up at night: The Four Great Existential Questions; Hubble Ultra Deep Field; Identity Politics; Spiritual Truths and Self-Knowledge; Theism and Atheism; The Pros and Cons of “Organized Religion”; and Why He Doesn’t Really Believe in Mechanical, Quantitative, Linear Clock Time.

CITIZEN OF THE WORLD is his most honest attempt thus far to be the same guy onstage that he is offstage. Friends will no doubt recognize his ideas and cheer through the laughs; fans may wonder what happened to his familiar material and safer themes; and newcomers just discovering this artist may be scratching their heads as to why they’ve never heard of this comic-philosopher before.
